Ye Jinglv,born in 1881 in Foochow,  the captital city of Fujian Province, in southeast China.
     He took the first photograph in 1901 before leaving London, where he had been working for the Chinese Ambassador to UK, Luo Fenglu.
   
After returning from the U.K., he began work as   the manager of Luo's business in Foochow .       He remained in Foochow for many years and retired after the bankruptcy of Luo Family business  in  1933.

His portraits were taken every year,for 62 years, from 1907 to 1968.
There was only one exception.In 1952,he substitu-ted the annual photographic portrait with a black scissor-cut "silhouette" . 1952 was an  unusual  year for Ye Jingly, there was a complex series of events that left him humiliated. 

From 1915 to 1940,and 1946 to 1951, alternated   between a sitting and a standing for the photog-raphs. 

Ye Jinglv died in 1968. He was 88. His last phot-ograph had been taken only a few weeks earlier,  on International Children's Day. 

He led an obscure life. Even among people of his own era he was not well known. But here is a rec-ord of a man's life, maintained consistency and  diligently.

The work remains a chronicle of a man, who found life's essence, a man who lived with grace and   elegance then passed into Eternity.
